Worcester Full and Half Marathon - Results are here

The first Worcester Full and Half marathon took place in perfect running weather, warm enough for the fantastic marshals and cool enough for the 960 runners who crossed the finish line.

The start was delayed by 15 minutes, caused by backing up traffic coming into Sixways to park. Although we were aware and also stated on our Race Info Page the Rugby Club were charging for car parking, we were not expecting the parking system to be handled in the manner that caused the delays and we shall certainly be addressing this for next year race.

Having got underway the runners set out into rural and scenic Worcestershire in good spirits and they were supported en route by enthusiastic marshals and helpers many of whom do tireless work for St Richard’s Hospice, and to whom we are very grateful. Some of the marshals were entrants who couldn’t run on the day, securing a deferred place for 2013 by lending a hand.

The disappearance of several mile markers and other critical signs around the course prior to the race start in what seems to have been a targeted removal rather than a prank has given us something to think about too in order to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

However everyone successfully negotiated their way round and first home in the Half Marathon was Morpeth Harriers runner, Nathan Shrubb, in an impressive 1.13.42, shortly followed by local club runner, Darren Sailsbury, of Blackpear Joggers in 1.15.08, and in third was Chris Jordan 1.18.55 from Hinckley Runners. There were over 750 finishers in this race.

For the ladies it was Alice Fletcher to cross the finish line first in 1.13.55, closely followed by Sarah Heatley in 1.33.33, with third place going to Sally Bevins in 1.35.23.

For the 200 runners going the full distance it was another gruelling lap to make up the 26.2 miles, but taking it in his stride was the Marathon winner Andy Norris in sub three hours at 2.55.22. Not far behind was Chippenham Harriers runner, Stuart Dinwoodie, another sub three hours at 2.59.27 and following close by was Paul Burslem of Trentham RC in 3.03.55.

Doing it for the girls in a fantastic finish time of 3.27.10 was first lady Caroline Hemming, just over a minute later Tracey Hayward crossed the line in 3.28.37, and shortly after Amanda Duncan took third in 3.36.00.

Thank you to those of you who have emailed us with lots of positive comments as well as constructive ideas. We want to make this a great race for many years to come and we welcome your thoughts.

A big thank you must go to everyone – runners, helpers and supporters and on the way we hope to have raised a significant sum for the St Richards Hospice.
